LE Lubricants in Action:
650 LE-CD 50 Transmission Fluid
This Municipal customer in the Pacific Northwest was
having trouble with the synchros on their 1998 Ford Dump Truck. They
sent it out to Airway Heights, WA to Jim's Pacific Diesel for repair.
The dealer replaced the two rear synchros which were found to be
defective on warranty. The mechanic at the remote location where this
truck is based went to pick it up, and drove it the 60+ miles back to
Idaho. Aware of the repair that had taken place, he was very observant
of the transmission's shifting and operation, which he stated was "Just
fine."
Upon placing the dump truck back into heavy ser-vice, it was used many
times in the following week, hauling from Rural loca-tions all over the
county, back to where it was based. At the end of the week, the
County's Maintenance Mechanic did his usual weekly service check of
fluids, and noticed he could not get a reading for the transmission.
He opened the drain and "Couldn't get as much as half a Coke bottle of
trans-mission fluid to drain out." Apparently, when the dealer had
drained the oil and replaced the rear synchros, they had inadvertently
forgotten to re-fill the transmission with fluid. When the dealer was
contacted to come see for themselves, they declined.
Fortunately for this loyal, longtime customer, the trans-mission was
protected with 650 LE-CD 50 Transmission Fluid. The coating on the
gears had prevented seizure and over heating for over a week, under heavy
operation. The transmission was re-filled with 650, the condition of the
fluid was later checked by Caterpillar in Boise, and found to be free of
metals and cooked oil by-products. "Good for continued use."
Over 6 months later, the transmission in this 1998 Ford continues to
run flawlessly, with 650 LE-CD 50 Transmission Fluid.
